Smile More Confidently with Aesthetic Contouring & Tooth Bonding

Do you have dental problems that make you cringe every time you look in the mirror, yet they seem too minor to justify having dental work done? Or maybe you have more noticeable problems like broken or misshapen teeth, but you’re not sure you want to go to the expense of veneers.

At Antigone Skoulas, DDS and Associates, we have great solutions for improving your teeth. We offer two aesthetic procedures that are quick, easy, and produce a new smile you’ll love: aesthetic contouring and tooth bonding.

Aesthetic contouring reshapes your teeth

Aesthetic contouring goes by a variety of names, like teeth reshaping, enameloplasty, and odontoplasty. Despite the complex names, the basic procedure is simple: We carefully and artistically remove small amounts of your tooth enamel to change the length, shape, or surface of the tooth. When we finish the contouring, we polish your teeth, and your smile is transformed.

We may use various dental tools to reshape your tooth, such as diamond burs and dental lasers, but they’re all gentle, and the procedure is painless. We start by taking X-rays to be sure the tooth root isn’t too close to the enamel surface to cause problems. And since tooth enamel doesn’t contain any nerves, you don’t need to worry about pain.

As long as your teeth only need minor changes, contouring does an excellent job of improving problems such as:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Irregularly shaped teeth
  • Teeth that are too long or large
  • Edges that are crooked or uneven

Aesthetic contouring is a fast process. For most patients it takes less than a half-hour, which is as close to instant results as you can get.

Dental bonding takes cosmetic improvements to the next level

If your cosmetic problems are too severe for contouring, but you don’t want to get veneers, dental bonding may be the perfect choice. Dental bonding uses a composite resin to repair and improve the appearance of your teeth.

The first step in bonding is to choose a color for the resin that matches your natural teeth. Then we mix the resin and prepare your tooth by slightly roughening the surface.

After placing the resin on your tooth, we mold it into the desired shape. When we finish crafting the look you desire, we use a curing light to harden the resin and ensure it completely bonds to your tooth.

Dental bonding can achieve all the same improvements as contouring (except for shortening a long tooth), but since it’s a more substantial cosmetic treatment, bonding also effectively:

  • Repairs broken and chipped teeth
  • Closes gaps between teeth
  • Covers stained teeth
  • Improves tooth shape and length
  • Corrects moderate misalignment
  • Strengthens eroded enamel

Like contouring, bonding can also be accomplished in one visit, so you get quick results. The downside to bonding is that it’s susceptible to the same staining as your natural teeth, and it may not last as long as porcelain veneers. But you’ll get exceptional results that turn imperfect teeth into a gorgeous smile.

Combine contouring and bonding for exceptional results

We can perform contouring and bonding alone, or we can do both at the same time to enhance your results. Tooth contouring and bonding offer a gratifying alternative for creating a confident smile that’s affordable, fast, and beautiful.
